- Description
- Central grid systems are being increasingly faced with extreme events such as growing loads, increased electricity costs and reduced reliability. In comparison, the renewable energy and the natural gas systems are increasingly being considered as optimal solutions to these problematic events. This paper, therefore, proposes the expansion planning of a decentralised grid, which consists of wind energy, photovoltaic and smart battery modules (SBM), in a coupled natural gas generation system and a thermal station. A novel mul-ti-level stochastic programming model is formulated to solve the problem of total expansion planning (investment and operation costs) and the designing of a multi-energy model. The objective of this study is minimising the full costs of the combined multi-energy system, including fixed, variable and reliability expenses, while maintaining the construction of distribution systems, gas pipelines, natural gas-fired generators (NGFGs) and distributed generators. The multi-energy planning options are investigated using the modified IEEE-118 for improving the central grid resilience.
